Our Youth Program

Our youth movement curriculum focuses on creating a safe space for kids in our community, where we celebrate individuals, teach the whole person, and provide a high-quality movement education, right here in The Gorge!

Our values:

  1. Movement is for everyone, in every body. Our priority is to create a safe space for children and youth (physically and mentally), create an inclusive culture that celebrates individuals, no matter their size, shape, or identity, and provide students with a high-quality dance education, in that order.

  2. Contemporary movement education. Our curriculum is grounded in knowledge of anatomy, alignment, body mechanics and contemporary pedagogy - students are taught to move safely and develop movement skills they can use for life.

  3. Multiple paths to success. Movement education can lead to performance opportunities, higher education, or balance, flexibility and body awareness for other pursuits. It can also just be a fun way to spend your time. Whatever a student is here to do, we are here to support them and their goals.

Irish Step Dance
Ages 7-9

Irish step dance is a style of performance dance, founded in traditional Irish dance. If you’re familiar with Riverdance, that’s what this type of dance is! It’s technical (think sharp and precise movements), rhythmic (music is an integral part of Irish dance) and fast paced (kids will be MOVING in this class). Irish step dance draws from it’s folk-dance traditions, emphasizing musicality and rhythm as well as from contemporary dance forms like classical ballet. Irish dance is a great way to develop rhythm, coordination and muscle control. This class teaches the basics of Irish step dance, through age-appropriate skill building, fun choreography, self expression and teamwork.  Dancers must be 7 years old by September 1, 2021.

Youth Yoga Trapeze
Ages 10-13

This class celebrates tweens by creating a positive environment in which movers can express themselves, take on new challenges, and build a positive environment for themselves and their peers. This class helps tweens build a foundational movement practice in a fun and engaging way, by using the yoga trapeze. Movers will build strength, flexibility, balance, and confidence in this class. Though we’ll be moving a lot, we also explore mindfulness activities that teach kids skills to use when life gets stressful (which happens a lot at this age)! Movers must be 10 years old by September 1, 2021.
